Red Light Therapy for Eyes at Home: What It Can and Can't Do

Red light therapy has moved from clinics into our homes. Here's what to know before you try it around the eyes.

What is red light therapy?

It uses low-level red light directed at the skin. At home, it comes in masks, wands and eye massager glasses, often combined with warmth and gentle vibration.

What to expect

Most women use it as a calming daily ritual: ten minutes of warmth, soft light and rest for eyes that have worked hard all day. Consistency matters more than intensity.

What it can't do

An at-home device is not a medical treatment and won't replace advice from a doctor or optician. Be wary of any brand promising dramatic, guaranteed results.

How to use it safely

  • Always keep your eyes closed and never look into the light.
  • Follow the session time in the manual, usually around 10 minutes.
  • Don't use it if you have an eye condition, are pregnant, photosensitive or on light-sensitising medication without asking your doctor first.
